Du Fu Cottage

This small house is located next to the river Wenhua in Chengdu, the capital of the Sichuan Province, in southeastern China.

The Du Fu Cottage was the residence of the famous poet Du Fu, who lived during the Tang Dynasty, and where he wrote 240 poems.  Du Fu, although he suspended his imperial tests one time, achieved to become officer of the state, working in the court of the emperor Tang Suzong.

The cottage was built during the Song Dynasty, and it is fundamentally a commemorative hall that includes an office, a poetry hall, a wooden door, and a memorial temple. The original cottage was built by the poet Du Fu himself in his stay in the city. However, the cottage was destroyed by a windstorm and after the death of the famous poet the townspeople built a new small house in honor to the dead artist. Its reconstruction took place during the Ming Dynasty and the Qing Dynasty.

The cottage occupies an area of 200,000 square meters, and it preserves the style of the Han period. Numerous and varied historical relics as well as over 30,000 volumes of different materials are kept in the Du Fu Cottage Museum.
