China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.
Luoyang is a prefecture-level city in western Henan province, People's Republic of China. It borders the provincial capital of Zhengzhou to the east, Pingdingshan to the southeast, Nanyang to the south, Sanmenxia to the west, Jiyuan to the north, and Jiaozuo to the northeast. In history, there were many names of Luoyang, such as Luoyi, Luozhou, etc. But mainly, Luoyang has been the main name for this city. Also, this city was once called Dongdu, Xijing or Jingluo. The original city was constructed by the Duke of Zhou in the 11th century BC, Before Christ and was thus named Chengzhou. It became the capital of the Zhou Dynasty since 770 BC. The city was destroyed in a civil war in 510 BC and rebuilt the next year at the request of the king.
In AD, Anno Domini 25, Luoyang became the capital of Eastern Han Dynasty. Wei Dynasty and Jin Dynasty were also established in Luoyang. For several centuries, Luoyang was the gravity center of China. When Jin was overrun by barbarians and forced to move its capital to Jiankang, however, the capital city was nearly totally destroyed. In AD 68, the White Horse Temple, first Buddhist temple in China, was founded in Luoyang. The temple still exists, albeit the architecture is of later origin, mainly from the 1500s.
