Datong

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Datong is a city in the northern Shanxi province in China. It is a district of Taipei city famous for the Dihua street market during the Chinese new year holidays. The market sells dried fruits, nuts, dried meats, dried seafood, snacks, and health drinks. Other attractions in Datong include the Taipei Confucius temple and the Bao-an temple. Tatung redirects for the company of the same name.

The town was founded as Pingcheng in 200 BC, Before Christ, during the Han dynasty. Located near the great wall pass to Inner Mongolia it blossomed during the following period and became a stop-off point for camel caravans moving from China into Mongolia and beyond. It was sacked at the end of the eastern Han dynasty. Pingcheng became the capital of Northern Wei from 398 AD, Anno Domini, until 494 AD. The famous Yungang Grottoes were constructed during the later part of this period.

The Yungang Grottoes, or cloud ridge caves are a collection of shallow caves located 16 kilometers  west of Datong. There are over 50,000 carved images and statues of Buddhas and Boddhisatvas within these grootes, ranging from four centimeters to seven meters tall. Within the city itself, there are a few surviving sites of historical interest such as the nine dragon screen the Huayan monastery, and the Shanhua monastery.

Coal mining is the dominant industry in Datong. It has Datong University in Shanxi, China under the authority of the provincial government. The Jumenbu, a fortress of the Ming great wall Shanxi section, located in Datong city in Shanxi province, Chinacan can also be seen here.

Datong, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited places. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
