Anshan

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Anshan is a city in Liaoning province in China. It has a population of approximately 3.6 million. Located in the center of Liaoning Province, Anshan is one of the open cities on Liaodong Peninsula. Anshan covers an area of about 9,252 square kilometers. The longest distance from the north of Anshan to the south is 175 kilometers, and the distance from east to west is 133 kilometers. Anshan is about 89 kilometers to the south of Shenyang, which is the capital city of Liaoning Province.

Anshan was under Liaodong shire during Qin Dynasty. In 1587, it was fortified by the Ming Dynasty to combat the growing power of the Manchu. The city was burnt down during the Boxer Rebellion. It was destroyed again in the Russo Japanese war. During 1930s, the Japanese invaders founded Iron and Steel mills. The town suffered bombing by the USA during 1944. It was subsequently looted by the Soviet forces. The town was liberated by the PRC on 19th February 1948. This date is celebrated as 219 Park day. In 1949, Anshan became a formal administrative region under the Northeastern People's Government. In the same year, the People's Republic of China was founded.

On 12th March 1953, Anshan became a municipality under the Central Government direct administration. Haicheng County and Xiuyan County were subordinated to Liaodong Province. Tai'an County was subordinated to Liaoxi Province. On 22 August 1954, the Central Government decided that Anshan was administered by Liaoning Province. The State Council confirmed that Anshan was in charge of Liaoyang City and Haicheng city in 1985.

Anshan is famous for iron and steel industry complex, called Angang. It was, for a long time, the largest one in China, although Shanghai claims to have a larger steel plant. Anshan is rapidly developing with the aim of building strong modern industrial city with plenty of tourism.
