Zhalong Nature Reserve

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Zhalong Nature Reserve is located about 30 kilometers outside Qiqhar in the west of Heilongjiang province. This is an area of freshwater wetlands. For over 20 years it has been a conservation region and in early summer it is the breeding area for hundreds of breeds of birds, including white ibis, storks, cranes and swans. 8 of the world's 15 breeds of crane are found in China and 6 are believed to breed at Zhalong Nature Reserve. Among these, the red crowned crane is also the Chinese symbol of longevity.

It was established as a National Nature Reserve, NNR, the highest title for a protected area in China. Though, some serious threats to the reserve stay put. The single most significant issue is the supply of water to the wetlands, which was reduced in current years due to diversion for other human needs. Extreme fishing has caused a decline in the size of the individual fish and in the total harvest sizes. Clearing of reeds by fire is thought to have an unfavorable effect on wildlife, and when coupled with low water levels, can lead to large fires, such as the huge fire in 2000 and 2001 which shattered a large amount of reedbeds.

Zhalong Nature Reserve is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in China. It is worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place will leave a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justify the proud cultural tradition of China.
