Yumbu Lakang

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Yumbu Lakang, reputed as the first palace in Tibet history, is one of the earliest buildings in Tibet. The Yumbalagang also called as Yumbu Lakang is located on top of the mountain at the east bank of the Yalong River, Naidong Prefecture, Shan Nan, Tibet. After Songtsen Gampo transferred his capital to Lhasa, Yumbu Lakang became a chapel and transformed to a Gulugpa monastery during the reign of the Fifth Dalai Lama. Tibet kings and their ministers are enshrined in a small chapel. Upstairs is a small chanting hall, which houses Chenrezi and Sakyamuni.

Additionally, there are statues of Tibetan imperial family members such as Wencheng Princess and Nepal Chizun Princess. The carving technology of each statue is very beautiful and the color is very superb, completely showing the manner of Tibetan kings and imperial families. In Tibetan, the Yumbulagang means the palace of mother and son. Its construction is mainly divided into two parts that include the front part which is a multi-layer palace higher and higher, while the back part is a square watchtower of pillbox type made of stones.

The front and the back are entirely different from each other. There are two layouts and two watchtowers, but they have the consistency and entirety like a couple of mother and son. You can climb from south slope to the palace. In the palace large quantities of ancient historic relics are still preserved now and they are the significant materials to understand life and history of ancient Tibet.

Yumbu Lakang is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in China. It is worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place will leave a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justify the proud cultural tradition of China.
