Yangpachen

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Yangpachen, 87 kilometers north of Lhasa, is famous for its hot springs. It was said that long time ago, before the sky and the earth was separated, the whole world was in total darkness. People living at the foot of mountain Nyainqentanglha were suffering. One day, a golden phoenix flied to the area, determined to create brightness by sacrificing itself. It threw one of its bright eyes onto the ground. A fairy caught the eye, and then a bright lamp arose in the air. Snow capped peaks of mountain Nyainqentanglha appeared, grassland like huge carpet emerged, happiness came into Tibetan people. However, a greedy man near Yangpachen coveted the lamp. He took a witch man's idea to sharpen his hatred into an arrow to shoot the lamp.

Yangpachen covers an area of more than 7, 000 square meters. The water temperature of some springs is very high that visitors can put eggs, noodles into the springs and enjoy the delicious food. The town lies at high and cold plateau. While the surrounding area was barren and extremely cold, Yangpachen is green with grass and highland barley growing exuberantly. Smokes emitting from the springs cover the small town. Now it has a thermoelectricity plant, green houses and hot spring bathrooms, attracting more and more tourists.

A power plant built in 1977 utilizes the naturally occurring geothermal energy to provide electricity for Lhasa. The most beautiful time is the early morning at Yangpachen, because the cool air is always infused with the misty white vapors emanating from the hot springs. Its natural wonders and picturesque scenery attracts more and more tourists every year. This place leaves a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justifies the proud cultural tradition of China.
