Stone Forest

The Stone Forest, one of China's most popular scenic spots and known as the most incredible under heaven, is situated in the Lunan Autonomous County of Yi Nationality, about 75 miles Kunming. It in fact is an enormous collection of grey limestone pillars, split by rain water and current fanciful forms. Covering a total area of 350 square kilometers, it includes the big forests and other picturesque spots such as the Moon Lake, Dadie Waterfall and Subterranean Forest in Zhiyun Cave. Since the Ming dynasty, this forest has long been one of the most scenic spots in China.
 
A few of the major scenic spots in Stone Forest include Jade Lake, Sword Peak Pond, Forest, Naigu Stone Forest, Lotus Blossom Peak, Dadie Waterfall, Qifeng Cave, Zhiyun Cave, Moon Lake, Long Lake and View Pavilion.  The magnificence of this place is enhanced by another feature, that is, the custom of the local Sani which is a branch of the Yi nationality. The most striking festival of Sani people is the Torch Festival which comes every lunar year.
 
The Stone Forest is definitely one of the popular tourist attractions in China. It is worth paying a visit while touring the country. This place will leave a pleasing and unforgettable memory and justify the proud cultural tradition of China.
