Po Lin Monastery

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Po Lin or Precious Lotus Monastery is found in the beautiful plateau of Ngong Ping on Lantau Island. Nestled between the hills, this grand monastery was founded in 1927 and is a major center of Buddhism in the region. The main temple houses 3 bronze statues of the Buddha representing his past, present and future lives as well as many Buddhist scriptures.

Picturesque Lantau Island is the largest of Hong Kong's outer islands, its Tiantau Buddha, otherwise known as the Giant Buddha, which took 10 years to complete, is the largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha in the world. Sitting on a lotus blossom, on the hilltop, the 111 foot high, 250 ton statue towers above the monastery precinct at the top of a giant stone staircase. Surrounded by six bronze Bodhisattva statues, it's worth climbing the 268 steps to absorb views of nearby Lantau Peak, whose 3,040-foot summit towers above the serene monastery.

The statue was opened to the public in December 1993 after 10 years of construction. The views of the surrounding countryside from the base of the statue are simply stunning and the pedestal of the statue is a three-story exhibition hall in which there is a big bell. The bell is delicately engraved with Buddhist figures and Buddhist scriptures. Controlled by a computer, the bell is rung once every seven minutes, 108 times a day-in essence to relieve 108 vexations.

China is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, delicious local cuisine, hospitality and safety. Quality is China's top priority.
