After suffering crushing losses in urban areas, in 1927, a weakened Communist force led by Mao Zedong sought after shelter in Jinggangshan dense forests. Mao's small band was shortly joined by the Communist army led by Zhu De and Zhou Enlai who had been futile after the Nanchang Uprising as well as Peng Dehuai and his legion. These troops and their leaders joined forces in Ciping and began the Long March. The government has restored most of the well-known landmarks at Ciping and tourists can also visit the Jinggang Mountain Revolutionary Museum.
 
Jinggangshan boasts a huge area of mountains with rich vegetation. The streams take pleasure in a strong flow and a great drop. Therefore, surrounded by the scenic zone there are over hundred waterfalls, grand and marvelous. The background of the eighteen giant waterfalls of five large pools attracts thousands of visitors from home and abroad. This place is a world of flora.
