Monument to Huaihai Campaign Martyrs

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

The Monument to Huaihai Campaign Martyrs is a revolutionary war memorial and obelisk that was opened in 1965. It covers 770 square meters with a parterre, a square and a lake, the park includes five main parts, Cenotaph to Martyrs, Memorial of the Campaign, Statue of the Five Generals, National Defense Education Museum, and Steles.
It commemorates the Huaihai battle fought by the People's Liberation Army from the end of 1948 to the beginning of 1949. Located in a large park on the southern edge of town, the Cenotaph is situated on the slope of the hill, standing in the axes of the park with a height of 38.15 meters. The gold-plating inscriptions by Chairman Mao are set in the front of the cenotaph, which is enclosed by cloisters and pavilions.

In the marble wall of the south and north cloisters, the inscriptions by the leaders and the names of the martyrs are engraved. The relief sculptures on the base of the cenotaph depict the grand scenes of the battlefields of the Huaihai Campaign. The memorial hall contains exhibits of military equipment, photos, maps and other memorabilia as well as inscriptions by Chinese leaders.
