Harbin Ice and Snow Festival

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Harbin is the capital of Heilongjiang Province, in north-east China. The population of the region is about 37 million, consisting of several different minorities including Han, Manchurian, Korean, Mongolian, Muslim, Daur, Oroqen, Hezhen, Kirgiz and Ewenki. There are some amazing places to visit if you decide to go for the Ice Festival, the
five Grand Lakes of the Volcano Park and the Jingpo Lake, a barrier lake in high mountains.

Every year from early January to late February, The city of Harbin makes the most of its freezing winters by hosting a spectacular Ice and Snow festival. The festival is mainly located in Zhaolin Park, which is filled with remarkable sculptures carved from ice. These can range from intricate carvings of human figures, birds, animals and mythical beasts to huge reproductions of famous buildings.

At night the sculptures are illuminated by multi-colored lights and the towering replica monuments, castles and pagodas line the snow-covered streets. Skating, sledding and other winter sports are popular during the festival and some of the most popular ice sculptures are the giant ice slides. At the end of the festival everyone takes a mallet to the lanterns and smashes them up in the street. There's little chance of the artworks melting, as Harbin's location near the Russian border provides icy temperatures for most of the year. Remember to wrap up warm.

China is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, delicious local cuisine, hospitality and safety. Quality is China's top priority.
