Government House

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Government House, located on Upper Albert Road, nestles at the Government Hill, Central, Hong Kong Island. It was the former residence for Hong Kong's British governors. Built in 1855 and designed by Charles Saint George Cleverly in 1851, the building has been enlarged and altered considerably since then.

The building is a blend of different styles that mirrors Hong Kong's history. Influences from the 2nd World War Japanese occupation can be seen in the oriental style turret and the upturned roofs of the house. The former chief executive of Hong Kong, Tung Chee Hwa decided not to live in Government House, supposedly because of the bad Feng Shui. However, when Donald Tsang took over the office of Chief Executive of Hong Kong, he decided to re-occupy it as an official residence and office. He moved there at the end of January 2006. Government House is open to the public during the weekends and on select days and is also used for charity functions, outdoor concerts, a guesthouse and is used for formal banquets.

The main entrance of the House faces south towards the Victoria Peak. Down on the northern side is the Central Government Offices, where most Government Secretariat offices are situated. Government House has a front lawn and a back garden. Eminent among the plants in the garden are the numerous azaleas that come to full bloom in Spring. Inside, the Ballroom, the Drawing Room, the Dining Room and the Conference Room are frequently used for receiving guests at official functions.

China is a popular travel destination for visitors and globe trotters from all over the world who appreciate its beautiful landscapes, rich culture, delicious local cuisine, hospitality and safety. Quality is China's top priority.
