Daguan Tower

China, an East Asian country is one of the world’s oldest civilizations. It has a vast cultural history of more than five thousand years and an outstanding natural beauty. On the other hand, this country has remained a comparatively isolated and secluded one, and being a land of mystery, this country is not known to the western half of the world. However, China is rapidly developing and has grown in the phase of modernization, with an immense speed and is also welcoming the outer world to interact and do business with them.

Daguan Tower, also known as Grand View Tower, is located at the south end of Daguan Park in the city of Kunming. The pavilion was built in 1690 on the site of a temple dedicated to Guanyin, Goddess of Mercy. The present pavilion was renovated in 1866 and is a pretty pagoda structure.

It has 3 stories covered with yellow glazed square tiles and has a grand view of Dianchi Lake from the top storey. On the front pillars of the pavilion there is a pair of scrolls containing a poetic couplet by the Qing dynasty poet Sun Ranweng. The couplets are possibly the longest set of Chinese couplets and describe the beauty of Kunming and the history of Yunnan.

Daguan Tower is one of Kunming’s most popular destinations and is well known amongst the cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced.
